When I moved to Long Island from Brooklyn in 2nd grade, I was put in the lowest reading section. Then, some wise teacher put me in a special reading program where I discovered fairy tales. I loved fairy tales so much that I wrote my first short story in 2nd grade called The Broken Pencils, where a King who delighted in executing dissidents found that a spell was put on his pencils and he could just not ever get to sign a death warrant without breaking his pencils. I suppose we could ignore the fact that Kings in the past always used quill pens, not pencils- or so I’ve heard, but it was a very good start. After devouring the multi-colored fairy books (like the Blue Fairy and the Red Fairy), the Wizard of Oz series, Grimm Fairy Tales (ugh!), I moved on to science fiction, where I became a very young omnivorous devourer of Heinlein and Asimov. I also loved puppetry after seeing Ralph Kellett’s puppet theater in 2nd grade. Above all, I loved Paul Winchell and Jerry Mahoney and walked around trying to throw my void into a diminutive Jerry Mahoney dummy, part of Winchell’s TV franchise product line. Still, I think perhaps the greatest influence on me as a child were the early space programs, especially Buster Crabbe’s Flash Gordon, Cliff Robertson’s Rod Brown and the Rocket Rangers and George Reeve’s Superman! Of all of these, When I supposedly grew up, I was obsessed with playing a starship commander and, accordingly created the Adventures of Ganymede Jones, a radio show which promoted the show with bumper stickers that said, “Ganymede Jones is Radio Active!” and allowed me to walk around in a starship uniform for six months. Would a grown man actually do this? To find out, click here. Later, I developed Sound-off 3000! a radio show in Palm Springs which allowed my son and daughter to broadcast back to present day Earth while stranded in a spaceship in the 31st century. Don’t believe me, click here! So, if you don’t get the point, I love writing for children. Later on, I would find out that Paul Winchell lived near me and I became his project manager and helped him write his autobiography, “Winch,” and co-authored the screenplay based on the book. Meeting Paul and working with him was definitely a high point in my life- but as though who read, “Winch,” there was a dark side to the entertainer which not only is spoken of his book, but was apparent in working with him from day to day.

COMMENTS ON CHILDREN’S PRODUCTS

PROJECT MANAGER FOR PAUL WINCHELL, WORLD FAMOUS VENTRILOQUIST AND VOICE OF TIGGER IN DISNEY’S WINNIE THE POOH

Before he died, I worked closely with Paul Winchell, who was a ventriloquist and one of the most successful producers for children. He also starred as Tigger in Disney’s animation, as well as many other cartoon characters. I helped him write his autobiography and co-authored the film based on the book. In many ways, Paul was my mentor in the development of children’s products. I worked on a variety of projects for him- including the Paul Winchell Kid’s Network, the African Tomorrow Project, a rewrite of his well-known how-to book on ventriloquism including working with David Copperfield ( a fan) to write the preface and several of his websites.

BROADCASTING SEVERAL CHILDREN’S RADIO SHOWS I WROTE, DIRECTED AND ACTED IN.

I have created, produced and written several children’s science fiction radio shows that were broadcast in Tulsa and Palm Springs- The Adventures of Ganymede Jones in 25 episodes on FM and Sound-off 3000 for a full year of episodes. Sound-off! was developed for children from the late years in elementary school to middle school. I am sending you by email a newspaper article that describes the show.  This article was released when the show had been put off the air. The next day after the article was published, the station manager asked us to come back on. We had received more publicity than any other show in their new station. So we stayed on after their station was sold- and survived one more sale of a station before we went off the air.

COMMENTS ON EBOOK ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP FOR CHILDREN

I wrote an ebook for this buyer on entrepreneurship and later worked on her website. This was an amazing, highly rewarding project. She said, “Johnny Blue Star is a true professional and an amazing writer. I asked him to write my e-book for my business, BillionaireBabies. I sent him some information and he wrote a clear, focused and animated e-book in just 3 days. It was so good that I then asked Johnny to create the text for my website and he also did that in 3 days. He caught on to the heart and passion of my business immediately and he calls me with the most amazing ideas-adding comic strips for the website, creating a membership and an affiliates program, writing a 250-page BillionaireBabies book. I could not be happier with the results! I would recommend Johnny Blue Star to anyone. Thank you, Johnny Linda Samuels, CEO BillionaireBabies
